A canopy tour is a combination of ziplines, cable bridges, and stationary platforms put together using natural surroundings. It is a way to view the local flora and fauna from areas that are normally inaccessible to see otherwise. TreeTops Canopy Tour will take you through ten zips, five cable bridges, overviews of Mill Creek and one rappel station. There are two observation stations for onlookers. These stations are accessible by a hiking trail that goes near the canopy tour platform. Spectators may hike the trail at their own risk. TreeTops Canopy Tour at the New River Gorge was listed as one of the top 10 zip lines in the country by USAToday Travel. TreeTops Canopy Tour is the first mile-long, sustainable, guided canopy tour in West Virginia and the most exciting activity available, on-site, at the Adventure West Virginia facility. The tour was designed and built by Bonsai Design.
TreeTops Canopy Tour takes you high into the forest canopy where you (secured by a harness and cables and led by professional guides) move from tree to tree via a network of platforms and sky bridges, allowing you to quietly observe native wildlife and natural flora in this unique environment. Fast moving zip lines take you soaring through the tree tops for a thrilling ride over rugged terrain in Mill Creek Canyon (a pristine trout stream that races to join the New River at nearby Hawks Nest State Park).
Secluded by lush rhododendron and an old-growth Eastern Hemlock and White Oak forest, the Mill Creek gorge is home to whitetail deer, black bear, and numerous other species of animals and flora. Mill Creek is also a bird watcher's delight as it's a major flyway for Swainson Warblers, geese, and humming birds.
