Our resort has lots of great things for people of every age, it's true. And families are right up there as a special group of guests for us. You can create a West Virginia vacation getaway of "family fun” combining one or multi-day adventures with a stay in one of our many cabin choices—or camp in beautiful sites near the New River Gorge.Just for Kids
We offer rafting for kids as young as 6, rock climbing, horseback riding and fishing for children as young as 8, and biking for those 10 and up. You and your family have the optimal range of choice about what you do and when you do it! Make sure to leave time for the addictive in-camp fun including volleyball, videos of the day’s excitement, corn hole tournaments and delicious ‘kid friendly’ meals.
We have children of our own and understand safety from a parent's perspective. Our experienced, professional outdoor guides are trained in the latest safety, rescue and first aid to ensure your family is safe and secure on their adventure vacation. We have more than twenty years of outdoor guiding experience in the local area of Fayetteville, West Virginia. We use the finest adventure equipment and treat you as an extension of our family during your stay with us.
River Adventures (Including the Family Lower New River)
Plan to stay for several days to enjoy the abundance of activities Adventures On the Gorge has to offer.Our Upper New River rafting trip is formatted for kids, ages 6 and up, where the primary focus is being together and sharing paddling teamwork and family fun while bouncing through mild rapids as you raft or kayak in an inflatable kayak through the dramatic scenery of the New River Gorge.
Older children (12 and up) and adults in your crew will enjoy high action rafting on the Lower New River. But that's not all! We have a new river trip in 2012 that enables kids as young as 8 to raft this ultra-classic section of river. The Family Lower New River trip features guide-driven oar-rigged rafts and conservative lines through rapids in summer water levels.
TimberTrek
In 2012, we added one of the most innovative family-appropriate adventures in the East—TimberTrek Aerial Adventure Park. Though TimberTrek certainly can bring the high adventure for those in your clan who crave it, it has five separate courses and three of those are entirely appropriate for kids as young as 7! Comprised of obstacles, bridges, zip lines and sliding elements set high in the tree tops of our Mill Creek Campus, TimberTrek challenges and thrills participants, who are attached to steel cables via a unique and innovative safety system. You've got the adventure of your life booked, and you're breathless just waiting for it. Finally, Friday rolls around. You roll out of work, run home, toss your bags in the car, grab the kids and head for Adventures On the Gorge. Wait a sec... what are the kids going to do while you're on Gravity zipping above the forest at 55mph? Who will watch them while you're charging Hawaii 5-Oh Wave on the Upper Gauley? Don't your kids deserve an adventure, too!?
Of course they do, and that's why we have Kids' Camp, a great way to share some adventure with the little loves of your life while you bask in your own glow of adrenalin-fueled, West Virginia vacation glory.
Family Adventure Challenge
"The family that plays together stays together." Sure, you've heard that old adage before, but at Adventures On the Gorge, we take it literally. What's more, we believe that guided fun can be even more beneficial to the health of the modern family than anything else. Laughing your way through themed challenges is the name of the Family Adventure Challenge game! Put down those electronics and we'll engage you and your kids in three hours of playful, non-competitive activities, problem solving games, communication activities and nature-based fun. Our goal is for your family to laugh together and succeed at challenges, while having a great time in the great outdoors!
Canyon Falls Swimming Hole
And all of the above isn't quite enough for your high-octane and relaxation-craving family members alike, then in 2012, we introduce you to Canyon Falls Swimming Hole. Canyon Falls is more than just a pool. It's a swimming, floating, splashing, playing, relaxing in the sun, awesome view experience designed specifically for us to blend seamlessly with the amazing natural environment around us. Featuring a zero-entry end, waterfalls a kids splash-and-play area and a snack bar, Canyon Falls Swimming hole will give you the perfect way to unwind while the kids frolic in the water. Lifeguards included, of course!
