Folks ages 6 to 86 will enjoy the gentle Class I through III rapids and the fun and excitement of playing in the river. Rafts are also available for those wanting to take in the scenery and not get too wet above the ankles.Upper New River rafting is mild white water. This is a great place for a family raft trip, or scouts and youth groups to get their feet wet in the world of white water rafting. The Upper New River has rapids of Class I through III (on a scale of I to VI) which means the white water rapids are on the mild side - no 14 foot waterfalls - just gentle and playful waves, with plenty of calm water in between permitting you a chance to enjoy what's around you.
Scenic Rafting
The scenery on the Upper New is majestic. Lush foliage lines the river and rock outcroppings appear sporadically along the rim of the 600 ft. deep canyon. It is serene and humbling all at the same time. The river corridor is "Grand Canyon" big - you are small. On the Upper New River section, the preferred river craft is our self-bailing, two person duckie (also known as inflatable kayaks). With 5 minutes of instructions, you can navigate these small, stable but agile crafts through gentle to moderate white water. At least one raft accompanies the trip and carries the lunch coolers for our riverside, deli-style lunch. Some people prefer to ride in the raft, and that's okay. Through years of experience we have observed that people think they can't or don't want to do the duckies. More often than not, people take to them like ducks to water (pun intended!).Our Rating:
Spring, Summer & Fall: Family-friendly, perfect for first-timers
